2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Widebody Hellcat
Our goals for this project were to add protection for the track and drag strip.
The Work
Paint Decontamination
I foamed the vehicle with a decontamination soap from Obsessed Garage and allowed it to dwell on the paint long enough to break down any previous forms of protection that may have been applied at the dealership.
I used an iron remover from P and S Detail Products called “Iron Buster” on the paint, wheels, and glass to remove any iron or ferrous materials that may be embedded in the clear coat.
I clay barred the entire vehicle with a synthetic clay from Nanoskin called Autoscrub.
Paint Correction and Enhancement:
I compounded all of the painted surfaces with a diminishing abrasive compound from SONAX Tuning called “The Ultimate Cut” on a coarse wool pad from Rupes with a forced rotation gear driven polisher from FLEX to remove all of the swirl marks, minor scratches, and defects in the paint.
I polished the entire vehicle with a water-based solvent-free polish from SONAX USA called “Perfect Finish” with an orange HDO foam pad from Lake Country on a dual-action long throw polisher also from FLEX to remove any marring leftover from our wool pad and of course to add gloss and bring back that mirror finish we all love so much!
Paint Protection:
Now that we had achieved the finish we were hoping for it was time to lock it in with protection.
The customer plans on tracking this beast so we wanted to make sure this beautiful Hellcat was fully protected.
We applied STEK USA Dynoshield paint protection film to the entire front clip (both fenders and wheel flares, the front bumper, and the entire hood, along with the rear wheel flares)
I cleaned the entire vehicle with an alcohol-based panel wipe from Meguiar’s to remove any oil or residue leftover from our compound and polishing stages, and then went back over all of the painted surfaces with Gtechniq “Panel Wipe” to help promote the bonding of our ceramic coating with the clear coat.
I applied a layer of Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra ceramic coating to all of the painted surfaces, headlights, and taillights.
We allowed that to set up overnight and degas for about 8 hours and then applied 2 layers of G-Techniq EXO V4 to all of the painted surfaces.
We applied a layer of G-Techniq Halo (a ceramic coating designed to be flexible for vinyl and film) to all of the paint protection film for even more hydrophobicity.
We applied a layer of G-Techniq C5 “Wheel Armor” to all 4 wheels and calipers.
We also applied a glass-ceramic coating to the windshield and sunroof, as well as cleaned the engine bay, and fully detailed and dressed the interior.
